An open letter to Our Glorious Leaders

e.g. Bush and Blair, both of whom profess to be religious sorts full of piety.

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you.

Not my words, but the words of St. James

I thought however that the words of a saint from the actual bible you profess to respect might just hit home where my words could not.

James 5:1-6

Good quote, but alas falls upon deaf ears. Dubyah professes to read the Bible every night (presumably the Collins Picture Bible for Children knowing his intellectual ability). And yet when asked about what he's read and parts that mean most to him he struggles to answer, which means either he does indeed read it but doesn't understand or remember any of it or else he's lying to impress the Christian fundamentalists in middle America.

And Tony doesn't seem to think any of this applies to him at all, even although he's so religious he sometimes goes to Catholic services as well as C of E (wouldn't you love to eavesdrop on his confession?) - he just gives us that "I'll answer to God" comment, so it looks more like God is a convenient way to avoid having to justify yourself to your citizens. If, as Omar Khayam put it, the price of wisdom is above rubies then this pair have jewels from a Lucky Bag.
