I remember turning 10, then 17 was years away and the point where I could learn to drive.

I reached 17 and driving was the least of my worries

at 25 I got my forst job in IT, learned to drive, and started smoking, in roughly that order.

I by hit 30 and didn't give shit about driving, life was hard. Driving was something not fun, I was single and had been for too long.

I turned 31 and panicked, My god I was in my 30's

33 I got married, my first child was born before I was 34

40 was a blur, I vaguely remember where I worked and how my life was different.

At 43 I was divorced and expecting my 3rd child!

In less than a fortnight I turn 45, I have 3 children, 1 divorce, a new girlfriend (at 44 do you say that) and my own business that is faltering, but which I have invested my life savings into.

I know I have a good product, and a novel new way to promote and fund it, seems no-one is interested, they'd rather pay a pittance for crap or a fortune to get screwed by a big corp. meanwhile, with clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am stuck in the middle with you.

arc90 readability button : now for Opera Browser

Those lovely people at arc90 produced a readability button for firefox

Now useful as this is there was no setup for Opera, so I took the "best setting" IMHO and made a button generator for Opera for it.

Readability for Opera : Click on that link and the Opera "My Buttons" panel willopen, drag the readability button onto your task bar where you want it.

This is maybe not the best solution for everybody, and I know Opera has style sheet overrides for pages that display terribly (e.g. small yellow text on black, my pet hate) but it helps me, so I thought I'd share. Maybe someone from acr90 could produce a better button generator like on their own website, rather than this one which simply is based on my preferences.

Perhaps when I have time I will try to produce something similar.

Fog lights and rainy days

I see this all the time, and it bugs me, people who think that if it's a bit rainy they should put their fog lights on.

I think in all my 20 odd driving years I have only had cause to put my fog lights on twice, in both cases the fog was so bad I couldn't see more than 100 yards (think metres youngsters) in front of me.

The highway code lays out the law as to when you should use fog lights, it's perfectly clear.

Especially of note is this section.

You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.

The BBC story I got it from was published just the day before my blog post, if you compare the text from the Mail and the BBC you can see a lot of similarities.

Of course the Daily Mail would like to see the BBC shut down, which does beg the question, where would they steal their stories from then?

For posterity, and because I suspect they will remove the story soon, here's the text as it currently reads on the Mails web site. They can hardly do me for copyright when the blatantly ripped off the BBC in the first place!

It seemed like a simple request.

Swansea Council sent an email to its in-house translations service to have a road sign - 'No entry for heavy goods vehicles. Residential site only' - translated into Welsh.

The only problem was that the Welsh translator wasn't in at the time. An automated email response was sent to council officials who believed it was exactly what they needed.

But in fact it stated: 'I am not in the office at the moment. Send any work to be translated.'

Unaware of the real meaning of the message, authorities had it printed on the road sign under the English.

The council has since taken down the sign, which barred lorries from a road near an Asda supermarket, after Welsh speakers spotted the mistake.

A council spokesman said the sign was removed as soon as it was notified of the blunder.

But it's not the only bilingual sign gaffe in Wales.

In 2006, a sign for pedestrians in Cardiff read 'Look Right' in English and 'Look Left' in Welsh.

Cyclists between Cardiff and Penarth in the same year were left confused by a bilingual road sign telling them they had problems with an 'inflamed bladder'.

Hetchell Crags and Pompocali

Hetchell Crags, (also commonly known as Thorner Craggs) just 6 miles from Crossgates is an impressive set of cliffs popular with rock climbers. We went to find it, and the strange place which is Pompocali.

After a false start, having not been there in over 15 years, we parked up and one fairly short muddy walk later we found the crags.

After a brief explore it was on to find this place I had heard of, Pompocali. No-one seems to sure who made these strange earthworks, and pictures where few and far between.

Some people believe they are spoils from the local Roman quarry, although there are theories the earthworks are older than that. If the Roman theory is accepted, there still remains the puzzle as to why build something so complex simply as a spoil tip, each section is pyramid stacked, layer upon layer to provide stability and longevity.

You'd believe it wouldn't you, we've had some rotten weather this year, after being promised a BBQ summer.

I've heard people say "global warming must be wrong, this year has been one of the coldest on record"

And because the summer was a wash out, people tend to think this is true, rain makes you feel cold and miserable.

2009 was one of the top 5 warmest years!

Since records began about 150 years ago this year will rank in the top 5 at least, possibly even higher if the weather doesn't get colder soon.

So why was this year a washout? well warmer weather leads to more evaporation, leading to more clouds. If the wind patterns are right, this drops more rain on the UK. This year we lucked out, wind patterns dumped all that rain on us.

So don't believe the global warming hoax people, believe the science. This is why "global warming" was changed to "global climate change", not because it was wrong to call it warming, but because summers like this one would make people believe "warming" was wrong even when it was warmer than ever.

Firefox users gets all sorts of useful add-ons but Opera, although it has the ability, somehow doesn't get the press about extensions.

is.gd has a firefox add-on, so I thought I'd knock up an opera button for the site.

Time sheets

It's the most hated part of many peoples jobs, filling in that dreaded "crime sheet" every month, but what value do they actually have to a company.

Personally I have never worked for a company which demanded timesheets where the upper management didn't admit (under pressure) that usually they were simply filed and never looked at.

So why are they required? the only reason I can think is mistrust, the company likes to have records as they don't trust their workers. A timesheet can be used against someone simply by piking holes in it and claiming an employee falsified it. Lets face it, when it comes to the end of the month, that's what most people seem to do, make up figures based on half remembered jobs and dates.

I can see limited justification for them if the company services several clients, and bills by the hour, but surely it's down to mangers to keep track of this sort of stuff, let the expensive techie folk do their job rather than bugging them to keep track of what they did for whom and when.

Installling Linux (Mandriva 2009.1)

I must start by saying my hardware is a nightmare for Linux, it uses an SiS chip-set for graphics sound and the network etc. This is notorious for causing problems and the last version of Linux I put on here was a struggle, really a hassle.

Mandriva 2009.1 however, was a dream, I burned the CD the rebooted with it in the drive.

Mandriva booted first time with no problems, and ran fine, if a little slowly, straight off the CD.

Once I was satisfied it had identified everything properly I went for the install option. I mean how great is this (Microsoft take note) I could run the version of linux I was thinking of installing, without making any changes to my computer, to make sure everything works BEFORE doing the installation.

I know this is old news for hardened Linux users but for those thinking of taking the plunge this is a HUGE bonus.

The install took about 30 minutes, then a quick reboot and I had a working, up to date, Linux setup.

I do have to confess I had already prepared an empty partition, the install might have taken a little longer if that had had to be part of the process.

Plugged in a rather old Laser printer I have (Laser-jet 1100, not plug and play) and asked Linux printer manager to go look for it. 2 minutes later it's running.

Then the real test, the HP Desk-jet F2200 all in on printer, this was a faff to install on the old system, and I never got the scanner working.

I plugged this in, up pops a nice easy dialog, I answered a few simple questions and it was all installed, scanning fine and printing perfectly. No need to even find the installation CD or download anything, the printer manager went and found everything I needed by itself.

I remember the horror of the "torch" in windows as windows tried to find the correct drivers on the Internet, has that ever worked for anyone?

My MP3 Player and camera connect just as you'd expect, nice and simple.

Overall I'm very happy with it, looks good, works nice and quick and so far I have not had to go to the command prompt for anything!

Next I have to try my web-cam etc. but that's not here so I will report back some other time.

The Daily Mail has it's usual "Bash the Beeb" head on in this article. They claim BBC bias as the BBC has broken with convention and put Nick Griffin first, whereas it's always the serving member of government first, in this case Jack Straw.

Scroll down and you find this image.

Which seems to confirm their point, unless you enlarge it, when you see the full document it looks like this!

Nick Griffin appears to be on there twice! not only that, but there is no sign of Jack Straw.

Look again at that image, look at the creases on the paper, look at the creases on the paper under the Nick Griffin section, they match, apart from a slight darkening of the top section, this is clear proof they moved the Nick Griffin section.

I can't understand why someone would move it from the top spot down to cover Jack Straw if he was in the 4th position, but I can see someone might move it from the 4th position to the top, hence covering up Jack straws section.

The BBC state that this is not the document they issued. I think I believe them, don't you?

Incidentally, I have hosted the pictures on flickr, they are supposedly scans of BBC documents so therefore cannot be copyright of the Daily Mail, of course, if they have been altered, then they class as derivative works and the Daily Mail can use copyright laws to have them removed.

UPDATE: The Daily Mail may have been sent this forged document I suppose, but if that is the case, to publish it without a simple bit of fact checking is not a wonderful inditment of their editors.

He's now in hospital, undergoing tests, and there is some talk of surgery. A blockage in his caratoid artery they want to remove.

Porthcawl, Monday we started to build a sandcastle, and got somewhat carried away

It began fairly small.

But we added detail and it grew.

J had started his own castle so this was detailed as well.

He was quite pleased when it was getting close to finished.

Then we linked the two castles with a retaining wall and another gateway.

Most of the build team (unfortunately B and S had had to leave before we were done)

We could have carried on for ages, there was much finishing work to be done, but home time beckoned.

Doctor Who Exhibition Cardiff

Last weekend we took a trip to Tropical World as it was a rainy day and it's always worth a trip.

E had a butterfly land on her hand (we all had them land on us somewhere), J managed to almost completely avoid the camera, and between them and Grandad, we all had a great day out, I even managed to capture a lucky shot of a meerkat (I say lucky as even though I took several, this one was shot blind with the camera held over the glass wall, and it turned out great)

Proud Grandad? I think so.

Not many greenhouses have a waterfall this big in them!

This fish will come up and try to "kiss" you through the glass if you put your face right up close.

Hold your hand out in the butterfly section and they will land on you, we all had at least one land on us, but I only caught E on camera.

However a search of the radio 2 play lists didn't turn it up, Steve had slipped it in and of course I had missed the introduction.

The BBC and the DEC Gaza appeal

Far be it from me to second guess what BBC executives are thinking, but a little part of me would like to think whoever decided to refuse the broadcast knew this would happen!

Had a rather nice day, spoilt only by a rather sad experience around 5ish which I will talk about further down.

Surprisingly, Alisons two children were up quite late for a Christmas day, in fact I had to go and shout a big Ho Ho Ho through their bedroom doors to wak them up!

We had a rather excellent Christmas dinner at The Hobby Horse followed by a trip up to see her mum, dad, sister and sisters boyfriend.

Then back here for Doctor Who, which I thought was a fine tale, cybermen, a mysterious 2nd Doctor played by David Morrissey, and Dervla Kirwan being a superb evil nemesis.

I'm now finally able to relax with a beer or two having been chaufer for the day.

The sad news is we had to watch what by all accounts was a good pub, the Rock and Fountain, burn down. I've never been in myself, and now it looks like I won't be able to for quite a while.

I spotted the fire from Alisons mum and dads house, some 700 feet down in the gorge below, and was just deciding it was a proper fire rather than a bonfire when we saw the fire engines turn up. By the time we had to leave the roof was completely gone across the top of the restaraunt part of the building, somehow I imagine they won't be open again any time soon.

It looked like the building was empty, so I am hoping no-one was hurt, I'm sure I will find out fairly soon.

Anyway, Merry Christmas again, and a Happy New Year.

Thanks to the wonderful behemoth called British Telecom we have not as yet had either our telephone line or broadband connected.

Apparently they fluffed the order and forgot, so we wont be reconnected to the world until the 11th

This is ridiculous, the original transfer was supposed to take 4-5 working days but correcting the error will take them 12 days? this does not make sense.

When I moved house back in 1996 NTL (now Virgin Media) took 3-4 HOURS to transfer my account, Telephone, TV and Broadband the lot.

I do wonder at the complete waste of time British Telecom are, what is there to do that takes them so many days that NTL didn't have to do? I suspect bureaucracy, old fashioned equipment and general "we're the monopoly, and we don't give a shit" attitude.

Down here in Wales there is no alternative, everything has to go down BT wires, oh to be in Leeds with proper fibre optic cable based Virgin Media, cheaper, better quality broadband and far far better customer service.

This post is being written from Alisons mums house where thankfully we have a backup broadband line.

Local History

Is just fascinating to me, it turns out the house next to where Alison lives now used to be a pub, the 3 Swallows if we read the old map correctly.

Where we are moving to is next door to the old synagogue, which looks just like a normal house to me. Turns out the house two doors up used to be another pub (The Heathcote) and rumour has it there is a secret room in the attic from the Chartists days which still has writings on the wall.

Next to and behind that is the old abattoir! which is so co-incidental as my old house in Leeds was also next to an abattoir, albeit a working one rather than one where the stockyard has been built on and the buildings converted into housing.

There is a map of Brynmawr which details all (or maybe only most of) the old pubs, I want to see if the landlord would let me borrow it and scan it, as so many houses that look, to be fair, to be to tiny to be pubs, turn out to be taverns of some sort.

I am intrigued.

New Baby Blues

No, not really, more like new baby technology overload!

I remember I washed babies bottles in the hottest water we could stand, in the early days that meant from the kettle bloody carefully. Now we have a gadget the size of Birmingham on our worktop which does the job for us, takes about 3 weeks!

Well it feel like it when you have a screaming baby wanting milk and you weren't prepared!

Then there's the baby milk warmer, saves time and effort to bring a bottle up to the proper temperature, see above for average timings!

The first time I used it it overcooked everything, maybe I should have read the instructions but for some reason baby felt he shouldn't wait.

I used to leave a bottle in warm water for 5 minutes, I knew how warm it would be from how warm the water was when I started, easier? yes I think so.

What else? what other gadgets can they sell us? you know what I really want? I want a baby timer I can set myself, one that makes sure he's awake during the day and asleep at night! surely modern science can manage that?

Maybe I should resort to the remedy of our grandparents? a drop of whiskey in the final nights feed? (joking, I think)

Still, love him, he's sat next to me in his basket, chuntering away quite happy to himself and looking cuter than I imagined possible.

And the bottles! what an amazing combination of biological reproduction and fluid mechanics! I know I sound like an old fogey but it was only 6 years ago I was bottle feeding my little girl, back then they were easy, bottle, teat and cap, no bloomin polarity reverser and Heisenberg compensators (OK maybe a little exaggeration! poetic license I call it) this bottle has a whole extra bit to stop pressure build up and air coming through on the teat! clever but quite simple, just glad I didn't have to think of a "better bottle"

Welsh road sign mix up

As reported on the BBC yesterday, and the Gruniad today, council workers need a Welsh translation of an English sign, so emailed the English version to their interpreter for translation. What they got back was an email in Welsh, which they promptly used for the Welsh part of the sign.

The problem being, what they got back was "I am not in the office at the moment. Please send any work to be translated."

This displays such an odd attitude from all concerned, why was it blindly assumed this email ONLY in Welsh said what it was supposed to? certainly when we received work translated into another language we got the relevant English with the other language alongside (or below) for comparison, along with an English note from the interpreter, usually a thank you or general "compliments slip" type acknowledgment.

So do English speaking council staff expect such incivility from Welsh translators as routine? And also why was the "out of office" notice not in both Welsh and English?

Sounds like bloody mindedness on both sides to me.

Drop down lists for village names in Travian

OK this works with Opera and any web site, but I only use it with Travian

Opera has a feature "copy to note".

Select the text of the name of each village you have, then right click and select "copy to note", do this for all your villages.

Now when you are in the marketplace, or anywhere where you need to type in a village name, click into the village name field, and press the down arrow on your keyboard. Hey presto, all your notes appear as a drop down list, click the village name you require and it is automagically copied into the field.

Of course, if like me over the years of using Opera you have collected other notes by accident or design you may want to delete those to reduce the list.

Open the side panel (press F4), click on notes and you can manage them from there.

I hope some people find this useful, do please come back and comment if you do.

I don't know if Firefox or IE have similar features, if they do, again, please comment and let me know.

Medical Abbreviations

This is quite an old story that popped up on the BBC website while I was browsing.

All about how medical abbreviations are not "standardised" and can cause confusion.

Now some doctors can try to ignore this, but I worked for a company once who where responsible for transferring doctors notes from which ever doctors computer systems they had into a central database, not being a doctor I ignored most of the abbreviations but sometimes I spotted stuff that was so bizarre I had to comment.

There was one case where the doctor used abbreviations that included / and \ and then select characters to encode details of a patients condition that meant fuck all to even his fellow doctors at the same practise. Because this guy assumed he'd live forever and no other doc would need his notes he justified it simply by saying "I know what it means"

My son was overdosed on antibiotics when he was a baby for similar reasons and I'm sure other people may well have experienced the same sort of thing. (he was supposedly unaffected by it, but now he has dyspraxia)

Why do doctors do this? sometimes I know they abbreviated as they had old crappy computer systems that only allowed a certain amount of characters, sometimes it was laziness, and these days I do suspect they don't have the time as some arsehole beancounter is watching and costing their every working minute.

I just hope me and mine never suffer because some doctor thinks his or her clever abbreviation is "so obvious" and another doc makes a serious, possibly fatal decision based on a wrong interpretation of those "quick ntotes"

Stae of healthcare for the dying

I HAVE to rant

As some of you know my dads friend/partner was diagnosed with cancer on the brain in early January, the 4th to be precise

She was given 6 weeks to live if not treated

She was taken into Shefield Hospital for treatment, but they stopped it after two weeks and said she should be sent home to live out her last days in her own home. This was 5 weeks ago.

Two weeks later the hospital they wanted to transfer her to, which had been saying they had no beds, changed their minds and said they wouldn't take her as she could walk!!!! The Doctors in Sheffield hit the roof.

She was moved somewhere else and social services arsed about and finally arranged a meeting last week.

Now they have an assement meeting in 10 days time to decide if they can move her home and look after her.

She'll probably be dead by then, dying in some crappy hospital bed, maybe even dying alone.

The system doesn't work, the whole fucking system, no one cares and she suffers because of it.

Not a happy bunny, not happy at all

My dads here in tears and I can do FUCK all to help.

Where's the care? tied up in stupid red tape and profit lead healthcare, not a damn about the patients as decisions are made by measly beancounting accountants not the doctors and nurses who have done their utmost to make her time comfortable.

It was that BITCH Thatcher that introduced the idea of the NHS having to be profitable, bollocks, you can't make health care profit lead.

And this current Government has done jot all to change it, bloody Blair, more conservative than the tories

Very "scatty" writing, intentionally so, and it does make you feel quite involved with the protagonist.

Stupid Tiscali - Really Dumb

Tiscali seem to have a problem with Opera as for two evenings in a row now on this tiscali account I am using Opera has stopped working. IE, Firefox and everything else still works.

I can even fool whatever primitive filter they are using by asking Opera to "pretend" to be another browser, so whatever they are doing is based on the browser identity string.

My guess is someone at tiscali does NOT know what opera is and they are blocking traffic at peak times from anything most users use.

Just shows up what dumb admin they have, I'll be so glad when I'm back on NTL/Virgin Media, at least they seem to have some degree of technical nous.

I suppose the chances of somone from Tiscali seeing this and getting their act together are slim to FA, but if you are from tiscali STOP BLOCKING MY BROWSER YOU IDIOTS

Using Google to find music

Nothing original here, just an advanced way to search using google for those directories of music that people upload so they can listen to their music wherever they want.

It's cool, but a bit hit and miss, but always worth a try, enter the following search string.

intitle:"index of" (mp3|avi) song.title -html -htm -php -asp -cf -jsp

where of course song.title is the name of the song you want to search for.

The intitle bit looks for directories (or folders) which are open

(mp3|avi) sets which file extensions you want to look for, so you could also search for videos, or any other form of file you want.

Separate the words with . (full stop) instead of spaces as google uses a . as a wild card so will pick up "song title" "song_title" or "song-title" etc.

The list of -html -htm etc. makes sure (or tries to) to not just find file listings.

It works surprisingly well, but does sometimes pick up spam directories that lead you to mp3 sales sites, you often find empty directories where the files have been removed since google indexed them, and I once found the directory had since been protected as the owner had realised what was going on.

Falling Sand Game

You can divert the sand, water, salt and oil with walls you can spot plants then water them and watch them grow, you can burn the oil and wax, all fun. The strange yellow bobble that bounces around grows if watered, shrinks if it contacts salt, I usually turn it off and just play at making interesting patterns.

OK so I have extolled the virtues of the Opera browser many times, and at great length, before now.

However, there's one feature I have rambled on about which I realised just now I was a bit confused about, why? you say, well let me explain.

Somewhere between leaving the safe haven of my computer screen and reaching the safe haven of the pub, something traumatic happens to my brain while I'm in that big room with the bright light and the high blue ceiling, and left and right get completely muddled up.

Thing is, Opera has Some rather useful features on the right click menu, select some text and you can copy it, search google (or a selection of other browsers) with it, send it to a dictionary web site to get a definition of the word, try to go to it as if it was a web site, etc.

So when I have been extolling this menu I have forgotten that the OTHER handy feature is that you get the same menu up when you double click on some text (this is where the left right confusion enters my brain) so that's "double click" with the LEFT button, where I have been telling people it's the right button (D'OH)

A double click (left button) selects the word under the cursor and highlights it bring up the "RIGHT CLICK MENU" a further click extends the selected text to the whole sentence, and a third click selects the whole paragraph (it stops there)

So I am terribly sorry to anyone who has listened to my pub based rambling and have been trying to double "right" click to do all these wonderful things.

Great Weekend

Well it was, got back from my travels late Thursday after a 400 mile drive dropping Alison off in Wales then picked my children up Friday.

We made rice crispie buns on Saturday, and honey flapjack, which then got distributed to friends and family on Sunday.

I had Sunday and today to myself as I have quizzes to run so they can't sleep over when I'm going out on the evening, and today I have been washing their clothes and pegging out, does it seem sad that even just doing the washing for them seems really satisfying?

I seem to be really settling in to this single dad life, just got to get my finances sorted out and somewhere more permanent to live and I reckon life is going to get rosier.

Just need my girlfriend to be with me and I will be set up for life.

Password Security

I spotted this article in PC World magazine which lists the ten most popular passwords. They are

I would expand this list to include such things as your children's/spouses name, company name and a few other common words I have encountered.

To have a secure password it should be a mix of UPPER and lower case letters and some numbers. To make it REALLY secure use some obscure characters like ^ or # or accented characters such as Ÿ. And make sure it's at least 8 characters or longer. It's easier than you think too make one up, use numbers for letters for instance, so peter becomes p3t3r or bill becomes b1ll, use a car registration plate (no not your current car) or something else you can remember or at least work out.

The reason for this is simple, that top ten list (and I would add several myself to that to make at least a top twenty) is well know to anyone who fancies trying to guess you password. On top of that password breaking software will try one of two methods:-

Dictionary Attack
Where the software literally has a dictionary of words it throws at your password one by one.
Brute Force
Where the software tries combinations of characters sequentially e.g. it tries a b c etc. then aa ab ac until it reaches it's limits.

Now you'd think that second one would guess ANY pasword but it wont, because of the time it takes to process. A simple example would be if it just tried the 26 letters of the alphabet, suppose it takes 1 second to try each combination then after the first pass with a 1 letter password it's taken 26 seconds, to do all the two letter combinations it takes 26 x 26 seconds, or 676 seconds, to do all the three letter combinations it takes 17,576 seconds and so on.

Obviously computers can process far faster than this, but because the time adds up logarithmically this kind of attack limits itself to common letters, numbers and punctuation, and restricts the length of password it can try.

I must admit this is another reason why I think microsoft DON'T GET SECURTIY as when I created a hotmail account a while ago it wouldn't let me use puctuation in my password! so as far as I was concerned the password I created was insecure.

Now you will be asking, huh, well who wants to hack ME, the fact is they don't want to hack YOU, they just pick off the low hanging fruit in the hope it might be worth it. Have you ever sent something private by hotmail? or simply something you wouldn't want making public?

One company I worked at one of the directors thought he was so clever because when I needed his password he said "it's secret" I thought he meant he wouldn't tell me, so began to explain I HAD to know it or I couldn't log in to his computer to fix it, and he stopped me and said "no, it's 'secret' that's my password" the companies financial information, all highly confidential, was secured by an eminently guessable password! Another company used password 5 on the above list for EVERYTHING, again company confidential information was secured with something easily guessable, AND everyone in the office, some 30+ people, knew what it was!

I did point out how insecure this was and I hope they have since taken steps to fix the problem, somehow though, I doubt it.

after yesterdays rant about web sites that don't get things right by using "clever tricks" to do what could be done easier and more properly, I found this posted today on the BBC web site.

Web designers who decide that instead of perfectly good, standard, ways of doing things, they will use some new trick they've discovered.

Perfect examples of this are sites which use javascript instead of links, so if you decide to right click the link to save it somewhere you just get the javascript, or maybe, because they've used odd javascript, the link just doesn't work. WTF is wrong with the good old a href= style links? they work, they work in ANY browser and they do exactly the same as your fancy javascript!

Pages which don;t display in my browser of choice (opera) again because some twonk has decided to use some fancy arsed "modern" way of displaying the pages which he found on some poncy web 2 site, guess what guys, your site fails to display, I go somewhere else, that loses you a sale! tough titty matey.

I could go on, but standards are standards for a REASON and any web developer who can't grasp that should go and takes up origami or knitting, or anything else!

Of course what they also do, on a more serious note, is run the risk of being prosecuted for discrimination against disabled people, but they never teach that at the frontpage school of crappy web design.

You will have heard the story, BBC reporter Alan Johnston has been kidnapped and is being held by some unknown group in the Gaza strip, all we can do is hope he will be released, and sign this petition asking anyone you can help, anyone with influence, to do all they can to aid his release.

I really don't know, tomorrow is the second mediation session, I'm prepared a little for it but I just know my wife is going to refuse shared custody. What then? what do I do, fight it in the courts? or give up and move away, abandon this life here and just quietly vanish.

I see now why men do that, it's not easy, but divorce is so stacked in favour of the woman and so soul destroying. It is never the "easy option" but sometimes it's the one that hurts the least.

Not helped by the fact my DS seems to prefer the lure of the ice cream van in grandmas street than coming to see me at my dads. I know he's only 7 but it feels like rejection.

I knew this wouldn't be easy but I never realised just how hard it is on my heart. I love my children, I don't want to hurt them, and I don't know which option will hurt them the least?

Well this works well doesn't it

When are the idiots at google going to start making stuff that works in all browser, I have to post this in some crappy out of date piece of shit called internet explorer rather than my nice shiny Opera or I have to use the HTML editor!

Also I now have to check my web mail account with google to see if any comments are posted! I liked having them just arrive in my mail program inbox thank you! to my OWN e-mail address!

HATE this! I was FORCED to upgrade.

I've just about finished my blogging software, only the comments part to do, I know, long time in the pipeline, but I have been busy with more important things! I will be moving myself to there as soon as it's finished! at least I know that works!
